Sport’s Desk: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday banned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for six months from all forms of cricket for his threat to quit Test and ODI formats for Bangladesh.
The decision was taken a BCB board meeting in the afternoon.
It was also decided at the meeting that Shakib will not be given ‘No Objection Certificate’ for playing any cricket league abroad for the next one and a half years.
Former national skipper Shakib Al Hasan made the threat recently after Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha asked him to return to Bangladesh’s training camp midway of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on August 1. But, Shakib wanted to return home on completion of the CPL on August 16.
Shakib was the first Bangladesh cricketer to speak openly about leaving international cricket.
He went to London on his way to Barbados to participate in the Caribbean Premier League, without taking any NOC from the BCB.
Apart from earlier disciplinary breaches during his international career, Shakib has had several run-ins with authorities this year, too. His infamous lewd gesture towards the camera during the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ODI series earned him a three-match ban, and at the moment, a BCB disciplinary committee is investigating his alleged brawl with a spectator during a Bangladesh-India game last month
